Gigi Gorgeous, was her documentary everything?
Yesterday (February 8th) was the YouTube Red online premiere of social-sensation and LGBT-activist Gigi Gorgeous' documentary This is Everything. The documentary gives a detailed and firsthand account of the bold story and transition of Gigi Gorgeous.
What made this documentary so unique was the first-person filming throughout the majority of the story. Obviously, as so many documentaries go the beginning of her life was filmed by her parents, but it was so
cool to see that once Gregory started YouTube all narration and filming was done from that perspective for the duration of the production. It then begs the question, if Gigi knew all along that her life-story was gonna be shared somehow and if that was the reason behind filming her life or if it was simply like she stated in the documentary the camera was friend and diary throughout her journey?
It was interesting getting a look into the background and the growing up of Gregory Lazzarato because we original viewers only met Greg on YouTube when he appeared as Gregory Gorgeous. We get to see the exact moment that Gregory decided to fully be a girl, it was after the death of his mother, Gregory decided life was short and he needed to go for it and fully be who he wanted. From that point forward we got the unfiltered, honest, and beautiful Giselle Loren Goregous better known as Gigi.
The film really added some light to what is so usually a dark topic of gender transition. While Gregory had his internal troubles, we see that as time went on Gigi was able to flourish more and more. Overall, it gave a more in-depth look into the story that Gigi already told through her YouTube videos. I think it was mostly for light followers or new viewers of transgender individuals in general. It gave those who have never heard of her or even seen a successful transitioning story, before Caitlin Jenner, some new insight. As for old and loyal fans, it was another way to hear and see the story you already knew and loved.
