Vivica's Black Magic Leaves Viewers Spellbound

Thursday night (Jan 5) viewers were pleasantly greeted by the men of Vivica's Black Magic. The show centers around established actress Vivica A. Fox and her mission to bring diversity to the trending male dancing world and creating Black Magic. Named for the emphasis of ethnic or black men as well as a play on the famous film franchise Magic Mike.

The premiere episode did not disappoint. Viewers got just a small look into the potential of the group and a few of the dancers individually as they performed solos. The episode had the traditional entertainment introduction, the auditions, both good and very bad. During these auditions we met what would later be referred to as the Elite 8 men of Black Magic. Some of the standouts were "Profit" who had a very touching life story as well as Slo-motion who definitely lived up to his name with some

talented slow dance moves.

Soon the real drama got started as Vivica announced that the three of the men coming from out-of-town would be placed in a house she rented out for them. During this time we get a closer look at Gregg the rogue white dancer and his past. He comes across as a really sweet family man who's just trying to do his best to provide. Quickly after, Vivica puts them to work to learn from star choreographer, Darrin Henson for their debut performance. All goes well until one dancer, Alvester Martin, believes the choreography is weak and thinks he could do a better job. After all the drama the performance goes off and the ladies are impressed.

In the end I think the premise of the show is great, it bridges two social issues; feminism and racial equality. Vivica's goal was to not only put women in charge and judge men for once as well as in her words "add chocolate" to the male dance world. One thing that viewers can always count on to bring them back week after week is to be entertained by the dancers and their amazing talent. An added bonus to the show, drama between Vivica's team as well as the dancers themselves. It seems the show may only last one season or until they get their own shown in Vegas, but it is one to keep on watching.
